Parable of the Wise and Foolish Builder

You have seen it before. The huge and expensive house built on a prime location overlooking the ocean or built on stilts right on top of the beach. The envy of every person, that is until the huge storm shows up, and the massive rain and power of the waves reveals that the sandy soil that the house is built upon is insufficient. The footing disappears and the house falls off a cliff or collapses into the waves. Jesus tells a short story using this very image as a reminder that we too need to be careful about choosing a sure foundation on which we build our lives.
