At the time, none of them would have been voted Time's "Man of the Year". In fact, the twelve rag tag men that made up the band of Jesus' closest followers would not have been picked by anyone else. But Jesus chose twelve guys, invested his life in these men, and they changed the world. The Bible uses two primary words to describe this group, disciples and apostles. Disciple refers to their closeness to Jesus as they followed him. Apostle means one who is sent and is a reference to their mission. Twelve simple ordinary men, but Jesus' interaction with them gives us both a call and a commission that we too must follow. As we enter a new year, what a great time for us to make sure we are following the same path as these twelve guys.
