Alcohol

The Bible tells us that God is a good God and gives good gifts. Our problem, though, is that we take the good gifts of God and exalt them above the Giver. So, rather than being a path to experience God that leads us to worship, God's gifts become sinful idols that control us. The use of alcohol is one of the clearest examples of this. Some of us come from religious traditions that see alcohol as a bad thing to be avoided, and there are several Proverbs that seem to support this view. But, there are also other passages pointing to drink as a gift from a good God. For some of us, we make the gift of alcohol ultimate and give ourselves over to it, although we know this never ends well.
