The Old Testament prophets were a strange bunch of characters. But, they always had something to say, and usually their words were not encouraging. This is because, for the most part, the kings and people in the Old Testament were running from God rather than toward Him. So, God sent these guys and spoke through them. The prophets give us the very speech of God, and teach us much about Him. God is involved, speaking, and active in the world and in the lives of people. And, the God who spoke in the Old Testament is still speaking. But, we too have learned how to shut our ears so we don’t hear the message.
