Our Favorite Things is the title of our summer series. The Elders and staff have selected a favorite passage of scripture and sermons are based on each of those passages. Today's message is from Jeremiah 33:2-3, the favorite passage of Genesis Office Admin Carla Moore. The pop song Call Me released in 1980 by Blondie proclaimed, "Call me, on the line, call me any, anytime." While the reason for this call is vastly different from today's passage, the central message is the same. In Jeremiah 33, God is speaking to and through the prophet from the worst of circumstances. Yet from this there is an invitation, "Call to me, and I will answer you." This passage reminds us that dependent prayer is the lungs of the Christian life, the access to the oxygen that keeps us alive spiritually. So today we will learn what it means to call on the Name of the Lord and will find ways to put this kind of prayer into practice.
