Christ Alone

Oct 22, 2017 • Mike Hubbard • Series: Here I Stand

The heart of the Reformation was the reclamation of the Gospel; that we are saved by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone, to the glory of God alone. That is a lot of "alones," which seems to be contradictory. The issue here is that in each instance, we as humans tend to add something. Rather than grace alone, we tend to think we are saved by grace plus our works. While all Christian traditions believe that faith is involved in our justification, the Scriptures teach that faith is the only response that leaves us right before God. All of this leads us to the beauty, exclusivity, and uniqueness of Jesus Christ. The doctrine of Sola Christus, or Christ alone, declares that Jesus alone stands between God and us as our mediator and rescuer. The call is for Christ to be the center of our lives and the object of our adoration and devotion. Our problem is that we tend to find something that will either stand between us and Christ or alongside Him. Today we will talk about what it looks like for us to have Christ alone as the foundation of life.
