Counted Worthy

May 15, 2022 • Mike Hubbard • Series: To Be Continued…

In our age of affluence there is one commodity that is hard to find: lasting joy. We think joy comes in a package or experience. So, it is shocking when we see the Apostles rejoicing after having their lives threatened and being beaten. The Apostles were arrested by the Sadducees, but an angel let them out and they went right back to preaching. The Apostles were brought before the Sanhedrin, the ruling council or the Jews. Only a last minute intervention from one of the council members prevents a death sentence being given; still, they warn the Apostles again along with a beating. But, what can they really do to a band of men who enjoyed fish with a risen Savior? They are witnesses and nothing can stop this movement. The Gospel we preach is powerful and worthy; the only source of true and lasting joy. Following and proclaiming Jesus may cost us. Yet, it is in paying this cost and living for something greater than self that will give us the ability to find joy when and if we are counted worthy to suffer for the sake of Jesus' name.
