In Jerusalem, Paul finds himself in a culture that is opposed to him as a person and to the Gospel he is proclaiming. He receives pressure from the religious Jews and the secular Romans. He was there because of the Will of God, yet, his presence in the city gets him beaten up a couple times and thrown in jail. The final chapters of Acts reveal the story of Paul in the midst of a culture that is hostile. In the story we see an example of a man who gives multiple defenses of the faith while remaining a true witness of Jesus. As our culture grows more hostile to faith in Jesus, we, too, must make sure we do not cower away from the true Gospel and its implications. Yet, we must also make sure that we love the culture around us, maintain our humility, and make sure that if we are to be persecuted that it is for the right things.
