Crucified

"There they crucified Him." The story in John 19 is matter of fact, telling us that Jesus was led, bearing his own cross, to the place of the skull, where he was crucified between two others. Pilate put up a sign, the soldiers gambled for his clothes, and there were a few women and one disciple at Jesus' execution. But underneath the story is the glory of Jesus on display as He serves as our substitute. The cross is all about the idea of penal substitutionary atonement, the central doctrine of the Christian faith, and a theological idea we will unpack in this sermon. We will find that this singular day is at the crux of history and defines all of our reality. And, our hope is only in the cross of Jesus Christ.
