The epilogue of John 21 contains a very important, post- resurrection story that is primarily about Peter and Jesus. At its core, it is about Jesus being redemptive with Peter's failure---he denied Jesus three times. To be honest, the sin of Peter and Judas is not radically different and, potentially, this failure could define Peter for the rest of his life. Now Jesus was alive, and this was a plot twist, leaving Peter in more of a sense of despair. So, Peter went fishing. This is not just about a fishing trip, but a return to the old way of life. But Jesus meets Peter there, and does a miracle that reminds Peter of Jesus' first call. The story shows us the power of Christ and how He deals redemptively with our failure.
