Let's be honest, Jesus' marketing plan seems like it was not well thought out. At the beginning of John 6, Jesus is at the pinnacle of his popularity. He has thousands of people coming to hear him, and a growing number of people who claim to be followers, disciples. They want to make Him king. Why not lever- age this moment for maximum effect? Jesus' response is the opposite; His ac- tions and words push the masses away. Jesus is not seeking a crowd, He is more concerned about making disciples---followers who understand Him, themselves, and the mission. People love a version of Christianity that turns Jesus into a genie and allows them to maintain a comfortable faith. The problem is, that Christ Himself will even- tually call us to something more.
