Imago Dei

Feb 3, 2013 • Mike Hubbard • Series: One Story. One Hero. One Mission.

When I am out with my dad or my son Andy, there is no possible way I can deny we are related. I hear this phrase often, "You are the spitting image of your dad," or "Your son looks and acts just like you." Most of the time I feel this is a complement, although there are moments I wonder. As God creates the first two people (and by extension you and me), He makes an amazing declaration about their identity. God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness." In other words, God is saying that the core identity we have as humans is that we are created in the image of God. In this phrase dwells the highest thing that can ever be said of us as people, and an explanation of our purpose on this earth. This is our topic today as we continue to look at the great story of the Old Testament.
