Is Finding Jesus In The Old Testament Obvious?

Feb 2, 2014 • Weston Ely • Series: Grow

Peter was one of three men who had the privilege of witnessing Jesus take off the veil of His human nature to reveal his glorious divine nature (Matthew 17:1-8). This event would certainly change a person's life, and it had a profound impact on Peter's. In today's passage, Peter recounts this event and ascribes it the reason he had the "prophetic word more fully confirmed" (2 Peter 1:19), namely the Old Testament (the Jewish Scriptures) was primarily leading to Jesus. Is this the case of revisionist history? Do the Old Testament prophecies really point towards Jesus? Perhaps Peter is reading his personal experience back into the text of the Old Testament. Or, was he right; is Jesus the central figure of the Old Testament.
