Joy in Christ

Oct 21, 2018 • Mike Hubbard • Series: Letter from a Roman Jail

Singing about Jesus does something rich to both our heads and our hearts. When we sing great songs about the person and work of Jesus, it drives our beliefs deep and also stirs our affections. This is not new---singing great songs about and to Christ joins us with other followers of Jesus who have been singing such songs since the earliest days of the Christian faith. In part of our text this morning, Paul pulls from what may be one of the first hymns written about Jesus to make his point. This is probably a song the early church would sing when they gathered on Sunday mornings. The song was a reminder of the great truth that in Christ, God humbled Himself and became one of us. This makes Jesus our Savior and Lord first, but also our example on how we are to love and treat each other. Our hope today is that our thinking about Jesus is challenged and our affection for Christ is deeply stirred as we look at this great passage about Jesus.
