Origins

Bah Humbug! A phrase heard often during the Christmas season from the lips of curmudgeonly skeptics who dislike the whole Christmas season. Our Advent series this year will wrestle with our doubts and examine the big life questions we ask. Our question for today: Where did we come from? Not just us, what about the rocks, trees, dogs, stars, and even spiders? Did everything happen by random chance and a big bang? Or, is something or someone else behind it? By coming into the world, Jesus was not just giving us a cuddly story so we could sing songs. His birth is the pronouncement that the Creator God has stepped into what He has made in order to redeem it. John reminds us that everything that has been made was made by Jesus, and that He is the very source of life which includes giving us the next breath. Everything in the cosmos owes its existence to this baby and was created to demonstrate the glory of Jesus.
