Prayer for Mission

You can learn a lot about a person by listening to their prayers. Of course, if they don't pray, that is the first clue. But when a person prays, we can see a lot about the values and wishes of their heart. On the last night of Jesus' life, He lifted one of the most amazing prayers recorded in Scripture. If it was me, and I knew it was my last night, I would have been praying for an easier way out, or for my comfort and happiness. When Jesus prayed, the focus of His thought was us, those who follow Jesus. His plan was always to give His life to redeem His people, and then send them into the world on an amazing mission. It is amazing to think that Jesus prayed for you and me. But it is even more amazing to realize that the purpose of the prayer was to ask His Father to protect us, equip us, and sanctify us for the mission He has for us.
