Red Letters: Love Your Enemies, Everybody Loves Their Friends

Jun 28, 2009 • Mike Hubbard • Series: Red Letters

"Turn the other cheek." "Go the second mile." These phrases are part of our vocabulary, and we use them without thinking about from where they came or exactly what they mean. Yet, for the most part, we do understand that these phrases deal with how we relate to injustice and people who are unlovable. The words of Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount had significant impact on men like Ghandi, Martin Luther King Jr., and Deitrich Bonhoffer. Yet, Jesus was speaking of so much more than being a passivist. Those who have been changed by Jesus will begin to love people that would have otherwise been impossible to love.
