There are times in God's story when He calls the people of God to join His vision for a project. In Nehemiah, the walls had fallen, leaving the holy city vulnerable, so the people took their places on the wall, declaring that it was time for them to rise up and build. Each person and each family had their place on the wall and had to contribute to and work on the building project, with a sword in one hand and a trowel in the other. In another story told in Exodus, God commanded that the people build the Tabernacle---a tent representing the presence of God. Moses challenged the people to give generously to the project, and they did; so much so, that they finally had to tell the people to stop giving (I've never seen that happen). In both of these instances, the call to give was never a commission for equal gifts, but for people to give according to what God led and their ability. The goal is that every person is involved, and not by equal gifts but through equal sacrifice. Now is our time---we are believing the Lord. Let's rise up and build!
