Sovereign

We continue the story of Jesus' trial leading to the crucifixion. Pilate believes himself to be the supreme ruler in this situation, representing the kingdom of Rome with the power to take life, destroy property, and rule with authority. The Jewish leaders are fighting for their own position of power by handing Jesus over to Pilate, protecting their own little kingdom. But the Kingdom of Christ is on full display. While His Kingdom is not of this world, there is no doubt that He controls every aspect of this story, and is absolutely sovereign over the Jews, over Pilate, and over His own fate. We too, want to wear a crown and fly a flag claiming that we are the sovereign king of our own lives. Yet, this story reminds us that our lives will only make sense when we realize there is a better Kingdom, and bow our knees to the True King.
