The Gift of Presence

Powerlessness... it is one of the great struggles and dangers in life; to feel like life is out of control, and that we are powerless to change things and feeling alone. Among the great gifts available to us, because of the birth of Jesus, is the gift of God's presence. In fact, the name Emmanuel is a reminder that Jesus' coming into the world was God being with us. No story in His life demonstrates this better than when the disciples are in their boat in the middle of the sea when a storm blows up. The disciples were powerless; however, they didn't realize that the Author of the storm was asleep in the boat. We now have that same presence living in us in the person of the Holy Spirit. The presence of God in our lives gives us power to thrive and survive anything we go through.
