The God Who Legislates

Mar 15, 2015 • Weston Ely • Series: I Am

Most discussions about the Ten Commandments focus on keeping the rules of God. While it is true, God does not want us to obey His commands. This is not the complete picture. Exodus 20 paints a different picture than a cold distant deity who just wants his creation to lose their autonomy and fall in line. Instead, we should read the Ten Commandments in light of the whole book of Exodus. We should remember that they are given to the Israelites, whom in Exodus 3, God saw their afflictions and heard their cries. So, today we will explore the intent of the Ten Commandments as given by a God who loves His people and delivers them from bondage.
