What Did Jesus Accomplish On The Cross? - He Is My Substitute

Oct 9, 2011 • Mike Hubbard • Series: Follow the Leader

At the heart of Christian theology lies the concept of substitutionary atonement. This is the view that in and through Jesus being crucified God substituted himself for us and bore our sins, dying in our place the death we deserved to die, and offering restoration and forgiveness. Forgiveness is such a beautiful word, and a deep need. As Jesus substituted himself for us, he provided the avenue for us to experience the deep forgiveness of God bringing beauty from shame. This morning, we will find that the forgiveness of God has two beautiful dimensions. First, God paid a debt he did not owe. Second, he absorbed the filth of our lives in order to make us clean.
