New kingdoms come in a variety of ways. Ours begin with an inauguration. We live in a world that is being affected by a revolution. Some kingdoms come through conquest and military strength. As Jesus showed up on this earth, the core of his message was the announcement of a new Kingdom, one that was of a different sort. But the Kingdom of God comes in a way that is completely different from any other kingdom. Rather than conquering with strength, or influencing people with greatness, the Kingdom of God comes in smallness and through humility. And those who follow Jesus as king will find that their lives are influenced by the characteristics of His Kingdom. As we pick up our study of the Gospel of Mark today, we will look at a few short parables Jesus told as he illustrated how God’s Kingdom comes and what it brings to the lives of people.
