What We Have to Offer

We live in a world with needs. These needs can be overwhelming for the church and for us as individuals. We can feel paralyzed believing we can't make a difference. On the other hand, we can get so intent on trying to meet all these needs that we lose the central mission of the church. The amazing passage for today's message reveals how the apostles are literally carrying on the ministry of Jesus. The man asks for a handout, but Peter and John don't have spare change. Yet, they do have something amazing to offer the man. First, they offer him the name of Jesus. Second, they reach down to him and lift him up with the care and compassion of Jesus. While we may not heal like this, we too are sent in the world as the hands and feet of Jesus with the commission to offer the only thing that can really save---the name of Jesus.
