Women and Marriage

Jul 22, 2012 • Mike Hubbard • Series: Becoming Who You Are

For the most part, the women celebrated in our culture are the strong, independent type, those who have thrown off restrictions or inhibitions designed to keep women down. This vision of womanhood has heroes such as Oprah, Hillary Clinton, Sarah Palin, and the foursome on "The View." For the most part, the message to young girls is that they should be independent, find their value in fulfilling their career dreams, and never find their identity in a guy. In all fairness, this is our culture's response to the view in the past that places supreme value on passive, naive women who found all their identity and value in a man. But, the Bible celebrates a different expression of strength and beauty to be expressed by women in the context of marriage. When women find their identity in Christ and express it by humbly submitting to and respecting their husband, they become the most beautiful creatures in God's creation and a wonderful picture of His grace.
