Worship

Aug 6, 2017 • Mike Hubbard • Series: Believe

This morning we return to our series on the Gospel of John, and our story today immediately follows the amazing story of Lazarus being raised from the dead. One day, Mary's brother was dead---now he is alive and they are all sharing a meal. Think about how amazing this is! Mary's response is incredible. She comes to Jesus with a large quantity of a very expensive perfume, worth a significant amount of money. She then humiliates herself by anointing Jesus' feet (and head), and then wiping his feet with her hair. This is an incredible act of personal love and devotion. Yet, the act was derided by Judas, who still sees Jesus as nothing more than a path to personal gain, and the contrast is significant. Today we will look at this act and talk about the difference between true and false worship.
